ALMONDS: Precious allies for our health

The almond is the seed of the plant which is enclosed in a woody shell and a green husk.

The white-pink flowers of the almond bloom from mid-February to March.

The harvest takes place between August and September and immediately afterwards the husking takes place, followed by the drying which lasts about a week.

The company mainly produces the Tuono variety , a typical variety of the Agrigento area and characterised by a very soft shell that breaks easily with a nutcracker and is an extremely less oily fruit, sweet, delicate and with a single, large seed.

It has a medium-early ripening with high productivity. The fruit is medium-sized, elliptical-elongated, light brown in color with a wrinkled shell.

Tuono is very suitable for the preparation of brittle, nougat, praline almonds, marzipan and biscuits.

As for the health aspect, it is preferable to consume almonds with their skin, because this way the quantity of antioxidants increases and thanks to the positive effects of vitamin E they are good for the heart, furthermore it would help to strengthen and stimulate the immune system.

From studies conducted so far, almonds appear to be very caloric and therefore it is advisable to consume 15 almonds (about 30 grams) per day.

It is preferable to divide the daily dose throughout the day.
